Historial Fiction
Inspiring books set in historical times. You may find non-fiction here too.
For most of my life, I was an avid TV watcher, the kind who always had a show queued up and could talk endlessly about the latest series. But about five years ago, I decided to try something completely different, audiobooks. I’ve never been an auditory learner, so this was a personal challenge, and honestly, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to focus on a book just by listening. Would my mind wander? Would I even retain anything? Still, I dove in, hoping it might offer something TV couldn’t.
To my surprise, audiobooks quickly became part of my daily rhythm. I found myself listening while cleaning the house, tackling a DIY project, taking a walk, or driving across town. It was freeing to "read" without sitting still. Over time, I even started skipping TV altogether in the evenings, opting instead to wind down with a good book before bed. What started as a challenge became a joy, and now I absolutely love the ability to read, anywhere, anytime, and in ways I never thought I could.

The Ruin
Just started The Ruin and I’m loving the accents. They instantly pull me into the story. The mystery is gripping, and I’m intrigued by DI Cormac Reilly and the re-investigation of a decades-old case. Hoping this one delivers plenty of suspense and twists as I dive deeper!

The Crash by Freida McFadden
Talk about twists! I can’t help but share this one. A young pregnant girl finds herself stranded in rural Maine in the middle of winter. She is rescued by a couple but quickly learns something isn’t right. She must do whatever it takes to save herself. This was hard to put down.
Missing Molly by Natalie Barelli
A secret life. Rachel has worked hard to keep her past a secret, even from her husband and best friend. But now the newspaper she works for is starting a podcast on a cold case; the disappearance 12 years ago of young Molly Forster. Some secrets should remain so. She will do anything to keep anyone from knowing that she is Molly. This was beyond good. I could not put this down. I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The Nightingale by Freida McFadden
The story tells of the Women of World War II. Two sisters embark on separate paths of survival in war torn France. The story follows their lives as they show courage and resilience during the toughest of times. I wasn’t a historical fiction reader until I found Freida McFadden. The style of her writing makes you feel like you are right there, feeling all of the emotions of the main characters. The Nightingale will soon be a motion picture.
For Better and Worse by Margot Hunt
Completely hooked! Natalie and Will Clarke’s love story started back in law school over drinks, dinner, and a cheeky debate about whether they could get away with murder. But now, their worst fears become real when a danger in their community puts their son at risk. Nat takes justice into her own hands, forcing Will to do the same, and their loyalty, love, and morals are tested like never before. This thrilling, suspenseful ride had me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn’t put it down. Fans of suspense, family drama, and high-stakes moral dilemmas will love this one.
