Magnolia Silos

Waco: A Deal Sealed with Dr. Pepper

I’ve always dreamed of visiting the Magnolia Silos, and getting to finally set foot in Waco, Texas, but it was not my boys’ dream excursion. But as the final stop on our San Antonio, trip they willingly agreed to indulge me with a morning at the Silos… on one condition: we also go to the Dr. Pepper Museum.

We pulled up to our Airbnb after driving in from San Antonio. The back patio was quaint and out of an HGTV makeover itself; strung with lights, adorable furniture and a beautiful fire pit added to it’s charm. But it was HOT! As cute and quaint as it was we only spent a short time outside, otherwise we would have melted into that adorably staged love seat.

The next morning we headed to Magnolia, where I soaked in every dreamy shiplap detail, wandered the market, admired the gardens, and stood in a long line to get my hands on some pastries - worth it! Meanwhile, my boys (19 & 21) were... tolerating it. They carried bags, made sarcastic comments about all the decor I likely thought I needed, and tried not to look too impressed. (One of them even said, “This actually isn’t that bad,” which, coming from a 20-something male, basically means life-changing.) HGTV came to life with the shopping, the gardens and the super cute food trucks.

Then came their reward: the Dr. Pepper Museum. Suddenly they were geeking out over vintage soda machines, mixing their own drinks, and ranking flavors like connoisseurs. It was actually super fun!

Waco may not have been on their list — but I think it earned a tiny spot in their memories. I am so happy this is how I ended my San Antonio, TX trip! -Stacii
