Four Days in Las Vegas - A Perfect Getaway
Las Vegas in August is HOT. But even with the triple-digit temperatures, four days in the desert turned out to be the perfect amount of time for a fun-filled getaway.
This trip was extra special because we met up with my niece and nephew, who traveled from Michigan to join us in Vegas. It was my niece's first time visiting, so naturally, we had to do all the touristy things, and we loved every minute of it.
We ate, we explored, we people-watched, we laughed, we gambled a little, and we managed to get off the Strip enough to see another side of Las Vegas.
We stayed at Treasure Island, right in the middle of the Strip, which made getting around incredibly convenient.
Our room had recently been updated (bonus), and we decided to ask about a complimentary upgrade when we checked in. It never hurts to ask, right? And it paid off!
We ended up with a more spacious room with a fantastic view of the Sphere. Seeing that giant glowing Sphere from our room was pretty spectacular, especially at night.
Tip: If you're staying at a Vegas hotel, don't be afraid to politely ask if there are any complimentary room upgrades, or discounted upgrades available. You might get lucky!
Also, we didn’t gamble much, but the slots at Treasure Island were actually pretty good to us! I'll take a little Vegas luck wherever I can get it.
If you're going to do any gambling at all, even just a little, sign up for the casino's players club card. It's free, and you don't have to be a serious gambler to benefit from it. We signed up and ended up getting $80 in free play!
Tip: First Time in Vegas? Do the tourist things!
Since this was my niece's first trip to Las Vegas, we couldn't skip the touristy stuff.
We walked the Strip (a few times), checked out the famous hotels and casinos, took in the sights, and soaked up all the over-the-top Vegas energy. And honestly? Sometimes being a tourist is the best part.
We checked off plenty of the classic Vegas attractions during our trip. We visited the M&M’S Store and Coca-Cola Store, said hello to the flamingos, wandered through the Bellagio Conservatory, and caught the famous Bellagio fountains. We also watched the animatronic show at Caesars Palace…which, I have to say, could definitely use a little updating!
We topped it all off with a Cirque du Soleil show, which was absolutely worth seeing.
My niece and nephew took the adventure up another notch, tackling the High Roller at the LINQ, ziplining over Fremont Street, and even taking a helicopter ride along the Strip after midnight. Definitely a few experiences they won't soon forget!
As much fun as the Strip is, we also wanted to see a little more of Las Vegas. One afternoon, we ventured out to Red Rock Canyon, and it was a welcome change from the bright lights, crowds, and nonstop energy of the Strip.
The stunning red rock formations and desert landscape were absolutely beautiful and offered a completely different side of Las Vegas than most visitors experience. We took time to enjoy the scenic views, snap plenty of photos, and appreciate the natural beauty that exists just a short drive from all the casinos and resorts.
Of course, no Vegas trip would be complete without plenty of good food. A few of my favorites were Mon Ami Gabi and Hash House
A Go Go (breakfast), Flour and Barley (lunch), Maggiano’s and Virgil’s Real BBQ (dinner).
By the end of our four days, we felt like we'd packed a lot into the trip without feeling like we needed another week to recover.
We had enough time to see the sights, enjoy the Strip, explore a little beyond it, spend time with family and still have some downtime.
Until next time, Vegas!
