Bend, Oregon
Central Oregon — whether you're in Bend or Sunriver — is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise. With endless opportunities for caving, hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding, it’s the kind of place where adventure is always just around the corner. And it’s all wrapped in the kind of natural beauty that makes you want to stay outside all day.
I recently spent a long weekend there for my daughter’s bachelorette party, and we truly did all the things. From outdoor adventures (caving, hiking, and biking) to shopping, and eating (did I mention eating?), every moment was full of fun, fresh air, and memories we’ll never forget.
We started our trip with a quick stop at the last Blockbuster—talk about a walk down memory lane! We woke up the next morning for a 3 mile bike ride in Sunriver from our home to the local coffee shop in Sunriver Village before heading out to explore the Lava Cave. The cave is an easy hike (more like a walk), although it does have several stairs leading in/out of the cave. Be certain to pre-register with https://www.recreation.gov for access to the park. Tickets are usually released a week prior and can sell out. Also dress warm, the average temperature of the cave is approximately 40 degrees.
We also explored the Old Mill District, where we browsed the shops, strolled through Drake Park, and enjoyed lunch at The Lot. Everyone picked a different food cart to sample, making it such a fun experience. We wrapped up the evening with a delicious dinner at Pastini Pasta, and the food did not disappoint. I had the carbonara which was SO GOOD and had plenty of leftovers for the next night’s dinner. Afterward, we treated ourselves to something sweet from Goody’s (if you’re an ice cream lover, don’t miss the salted caramel—it’s incredible). Did I mention that I LOVE FOOD?
We wished we could have stayed in Bend a little longer. We’re already looking forward to visiting again soon and exploring even more of what this beautiful area has to offer.
